Our beloved leader and friend passed away on May 16, 2024, due to complications after a successful lung transplant. Joe had practiced law for 40 years in civil litigation with an emphasis in workers’ compensation law. For the past 10 years, much of his practice had involved mediation of workers’ compensation and general civil disputes. He enjoyed and respected his colleagues at Prentiss Grant and appreciated the camaraderie at the office. He and his wife, Mary, have four children and two grandchild. Much of Joe’s spare time was spent in yard maintenance at home, working out, or enjoying a cold brew with friends and neighbors.

Kelsey J. Paumer, Partner

Kelsey began working for Prentiss Grant immediately after graduating from law school in 2015. She specializes in workers’ compensation defense claims for both Iowa and Nebraska. A native of the small town of Neligh, Nebraska, Kelsey brings with her the behaviors and values of the Midwest — authenticity, discipline, and perseverance. Kelsey spends her free time watching re-runs of The Office, reading, rowing, listening to podcasts, and spending quality time with her husband, Grant, and son, Rhodes, and daughter, Campbell.

Kathryn L. Hartnett, Associate

Kate has been practicing in Iowa and Nebraska at the state and federal level since 2010. Prior to 2016, Kate handled personal injury, premises liability, title, and catastrophic construction defect claims. As an associate at Prentiss Grant, Kate primarily handles defense workers’ compensation claims in Iowa and Nebraska. She also maintains a robust litigation practice in other areas of law. When she is not at the office, Kate enjoys swimming laps, reading, cooking, honing her trivia skills, and spending time with her husband and two sons.

Katie began working for Prentiss Grant as a law clerk in 2020. As an associate at Prentiss Grant, Katie specializes in workers’ compensation defense claims for Nebraska and Iowa. Katie is an Omaha native through and through. She approaches every file with exceptional attention to detail and prioritizes responding to clients and counsel promptly while maintaining a persistent work ethic. Outside of the office, Katie enjoys trying new coffee shops, attending concerts, working out, and spending quality time with her family, her husband, Will, and their Golden, Hank.
